Red Storm Gathering 08 | Does Better Torpedo Equal More Kills?

Spruance met its end...
(Several days earlier...)
We left Murmansk in a new sub, the B-515, Tango-class. You may say this is a move backwards, as this is a diesel-electric sub compared to November-class, which was at least a nuke. However, this sub is also armed with advanced torpedoes such TEST-71M and USET-80, both of which are multi-role, rather than limited to only-antiship vs only-anti-sub torpedoes.
We are heading for North Atlantic, probably the Norfolk shipping lane.
03:15 Interruption

We bumped into a NATO subsurface contact. We IDed it as a Skipjack. We sent it a torpedo to keep it running away while we disengaged.
We immediately bumped into a NATO surface contact, probably ASW group. And we were right: 2 Knox and 1 Type 42. Just for practice, we sank all 3 vessels.
We then lined up on Norfolk shipping lane.
12:18 Unexpected
19-AUG-1984 1200L
Instead of a convoy, we met instead a subsurface contact... a 688. We disengaged.
14:14 Unexpected too
22-AUG-1984 1400L
We met an ASW group... 3 Spruance class. Getting tired of waiting for convoy, we sank them all, using most of our torpedoes.
Upon finishing off the ships, we headed back to Murmansk.
25:55 Interrupted again
26-AUG-1984 1000L
A bunch of NATO contacts chased me toward Murmansk, and caught me just north of Alta.
We managed to disengage from that
27-AUG-1984 1300L
We arrived at Murmansk, now much more familiar with this vessel. While it is slow, the superior torpedoes made it more deadly... if one can pincer. But there's no chasing down any ship in this slow poke. Launch at freighters early.
(Thus ended the 8th patrol. Stay tuned for the 9th patrol!)

This will be my third attempt at the Soviet campaign. The year is 1984. After too many Yankee provocations, the Soviet Union had enough and declared war. The Soviet Army can take Europe, if the Soviet Navy can stop or at least slow the reinforcements reaching continental Europe from the US. And as a captain of a Soviet submarine, I will do my duty to the Motherland.
