Europa Universalis IV, or EUIV/ EU4 is a game that I have invested a lot of time in, inside and outside youtube. It is coming up on it's 10th anniversary and I wanted to take a look back on this paradox interactive masterpiece, showing how the game has changed but still brings the same charm it did when paradox released it all those years ago.

Title: EU4 10 Years Later
Topics: Discussing EU4, and how it has processed to today, with some info about paradox interactive, eu4 DLC and maybe something on vic3 (probably not).

Video Script:
Europa Universalis 4 has been out for almost 10 years, and throughout that time the game has changed and developed immensely. (Okay on a sidenote the game is coming up on it’s 9th anniversary but 10 sounds better so bear with me). I have been playing EU4 for almost 8 years, and whilst the game is still the same in name as the one I bought all those years ago (at least now paradox sometimes give me free dlc), it really has dramatically changed. Firstly the map has been massively expanded, with many new complex areas and nations to play, other major features include the introduction of mission trees (something that I at least still somewhat ignore even though they make your nation much stronger and massively increase flavor), other features that seem smallish but really tailor the experience are being able to autoboard ships, new government types, new religions, custom nations etc etc… I will say many features that I would consider integral to EU4 are sometimes locked behind paywalls, which as I mentioned earlier I have become increasingly numb to due to paradox generously giving me dlc (not for every game now since I do not make videos smh). But the game for a new player presents a taughting entry, due to having so many seasoned members of the community with almost a decade of experience, the paywall being immense (I know there are sales for the dlc, alongside the new subscription but still it adds up). I will say that I do appreciate paradox continuing to develop a game that I still enjoy, 3,000 plus hours later, even if the studio did move from Sweden to Spain (now I have to take it’s colonies). I think lots of the games I play I question if I would recommend to others, and eu4 is one of those games that is hard to recommend unless you know what people like extremely specifically in games, but even with that in mind it is a game that while being a decade old, and feeling clunky at times, still holds up and is hard to challenge from more modern development studios. Maybe that is the paradox interactive magic, who am I to say, I guess once they cough cough make EU5 I can compare them in full and see if the dumbed down but slightly better/mobile-looking UI would make me feel like the game is more modern… I still try to at least play eu4 MP once a week with my friends and discord, if any of y’all would like to join I will link the games in the description, EU4 is one of those games once you get a good group of friends it still holds up to the 2013/2014 charm of playing in a lobby, plotting and trying to beat people who in the end will forgive you for your betrayals (in real life never in, in-game diplomacy). I think that is where the game still really shines, and whilst it does take some doing I think I could look back on EU4 in another 10 years and still feel the sense of exhilaration, joy and anger that I do when I lose a battle because reinforcements are one minute late, or when my navy beats Great Britain and I can finally take an Island I want (but lets be real Great Britain is to OP). Overall I would say it has been 10 years well spent. If y’all like this style of video let’s try to get to 30 likes again, as with my overwatch one! I also want to talk about VIC3 and other games I am interested, if you have any suggestions feel free to tell me in the comments below. Cheers!
