Rendering LIGHTS (Maya) : Maya Software VS finalRender VS Arnold
Welcome to cebas newly released finalRender Open Beta program (FREE DOWNLOAD - see below).
finalRender intuitively supports Maya light features for smooth rendering.
Let's import a scene here. Material : gray.
The good news first - if you're familiar with Maya, that's all you need to start with finalRender. No extra learning, nothing to difficult. fR is well integrated with all Maya functions. To install finalRender for Maya - watch our video Getting Started )
A quick flip through how our character sculpt looks on first render with Maya Software vs finalRender vs Arnold.
'Enable Default Light' works naturally in Maya without much ado with finalRender. Does not work with Arnold. Off Enable Default Light -- no output from Maya software. Take away point, is finalRender has always been developed to fully support Maya, even more than Maya's own render.
fR LIGHT
Let's look at additional attributes attached to the object : how do we manage this?
- Unique to finalRender, on the plane view automatically sets up the floor shadows for you.
- Camera view / default lights : again auto activates if no lights are prep for the scene/asset.
- Attribute Editor: under menu options see fR attributes and browse thru the many helpful selections cebas has for you.
** Geometry Shader Option - such as frGeomFloor - procedural ground / floor shader - great thing about this is it gives you unlimited procedural ground lighting that is, unlimited resolution! And finalRender Maya replaces the polygon plane with procedural unlimited ground/ floor with no extra work from the artist.
Unfortunately, if you check on Arnold - test render, and you get no output: again it is not supported.
- AMBIENT LIGHTS
- Ambient light: click your source location. Test render not supported by Arnold. Choose finalRender and you see here the ambient light working as desired. Ambient is also supported by Maya software but keep in mind that it is not unlimited procedural as this is unique to finalRender. Try changing the colors and intensity and render.
-DIRECTIONAL LIGHT
- directional light is like sunlight, a distance light. And in finalRender this is a great feature to create subtle shades and varied moods to your asset / environment. See the nice, straight shadows.
- RAY TRACING - try the feature to create a blurry shadow effect. Choose 'Shadow Rays' to smoothen the shadow outlines.
- finalRender : Diffuse Mult: additional attributes to raytrace shadows; create area shadows.
- POINT LIGHT (localized light bulb effect)
this feature in finalRender is also fully integrated with Maya. Attributes: intensity / color / shadows. Try raytracing the shadows with modifying the light radius - works perfectly in finalRender.
- SPOTLIGHT
This is the theatrical 'spotlight' effect. Again, finalRender is fully integrated with Maya to give you all the adjustment of color, intensity, decay-by-distance and also, supports all the choice controls.
- Penumbra angle, which gives a soft edge to the spot light.
- Dropoff from centre of light.
finalRender supports all of the Maya features and renders perfectly.
The version will work for Maya 2018. This finalRender is production-proven. So enjoy yourself.
