The year? 2011. The Game? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Me? Standing in line waiting for my copy at one of my first ever, midnight release parties… back when those were a thing.

Damn I’m getting old. Moving on! Fast forward 12 years later. The year? 2023, the game? The original MW3. Let’s finally round out this classic and legendary trilogy.

From the battle in New York, to the streets of Germany, sandstorms and the Eiffel Tower, at the time, for me anyway, there was nothing like Modern Warfare 3. A new squad and the original duo are back to stop an absolute ruthless madman that has started World War 3.

But before we get into the rest of the story, let’s start with some of things I didn’t like, which mainly centers around one person… the very convenient Yuri.

Let me start with this, I personally am not a fan of going back in time and adding a character that just so happen to conveniently be there for every major event and also just so happens to know the main character and we didn’t find out or know about this person until now because for whatever reason, they decided to wait until now to get revenge… it’s just really annoying to me.

That’s it! My dumb complaint or problem with this game is pretty much how Yuri was written into the story and how he happen to be from the beginning of it all… Sorry buddy. I honestly would’ve rather had Frost or Sandman join the team or even the one man army himself, Ramirez.

I know I’m giving a 12 year later spoiler warning but, spoiler warning, when I first played the campaign all those years ago, I was in my feelings when Soap died, years later, I do think it was the right thing to do, leaving Price alone like that hit me differently this time around. As the old saying goes: you know what happens to men who go looking for blood? They find it.

I think what made the original trilogy special to me was that, you always felt like you were involved with the story, for the most part, you never really got to see the character you played as and most of the time, it honestly felt like I was in some high budget totally unrealistic movie and that’s what made them fun, the risks they took, the White House and airport in MW2, the attack on Wall Street to the one in Paris and America being invaded, all so controversial, but part of what makes this legendary trilogy the instant classics they are.

I’m gonna give the 2011 Modern Warfare 3 an 8 out of 10, with the ever convenient Yuri and the rinse and repeat style of gameplay, you know, get into a firefight, you’re heavily outnumbered and then slowing way down into sneak missions, which can still be fun but, you know, rinse and repeat. With some big names behind these characters, the voice acting is one of my favorite parts about this game, especially Bruce Greenwood as overlord. He absolutely crushed it, they all did. I’m gonna give the original trilogy and 9 out 10, there’s a lot of fun and a lot of original gameplay and storytelling that can be found here, with amazing music and incredible voice acting throughout all 3 games. These games are always gonna have a special place in my mind and I’m so thankful for this series and of course, you and this channel, otherwise I may have never played them again. Thank you.
