Repton 3 OAP Level 7
The seventh level of OAP begins with a section similar to the infamous level "Giant clam" but harder, because there is very little room to manoeuvre out of the way of the monsters, they are widely separated, and one of them just happens to be right in front of the key you need to collect before you can escape. Oh, and did I mention the safes are invisible?
I was very impressed with testpilotmonkey's solution to this level, in which he used the fourth egg to kill two monsters at once, but after a good many tries I decided this could not be done reliably enough to be worth adopting. However, the main insight was a very good one, and I eventually came up with the method shown in this video, which could be considered a cross between his method and my old one. I run to the egg immediately, wait a second and then push it; this ensures that it kills the monster below while it is in its "hatched but not yet moving" phase. (Eggs will not kill monsters that are still in their "cracked egg" phase.) The advantage of this is that, until this egg hatches, I have a period in which only two monsters are chasing Repton, and both are on the same side of him. I can use this to my advantage by running in a square, waiting briefly at each corner just as in my solution to "Giant clam", so that hopefully the monsters remain at all times behind me. (This is less reliable than it is on "Giant clam" simply because of the smaller size of the arena, and sometimes when you come down on the far right, the fourth monster is still too low down and will shortcut towards you. Still, I believe this to be the method offering the best chance of success I have found yet.)
After all that, I just run up; it doesn't matter whether the monsters follow you or not. If they do, they are easily killed with the same rock used to release the spirits (as shown on testpilotmonkey's video). For the rest, my solution does not differ in any significant regard from testpilotmonkey's, except that by taking away one vital earth square near the bottom-left cages, I ensure that only two rocks need to be brought down from the room above. I attempt to push these rocks and drop a third rock to confine the spirits before they return to the upper room; this does not work and is probably impossible.
