Repulse (Sega, 1985) - 1 Credit Clear
21CC of one of Sega's interesting shooters from the 80s. This is a single-screen vertical shooter with distinct stages, bosses, and an ending. Unlike earlier shooters like Galaga in '81 the player can also move vertically a short distance, use a shield with limited energy to block incoming shots, and get a power-up that refills shield energy and gives your gun autofire - but only if you don't shoot down the chopper that brings it to you!
I played this game as a kid in our bowling alley's arcade, and it was one of the most memorable games to me because it was the first game I played that had an ending. It also had some interesting ideas, like bosses with regenerating health. The fourth boss also times out very quickly; if it is not destroyed on its single pass upward (about ten seconds), it escapes and the stage ends without getting the points for destroying it.
