Alien 3 for the Genesis puts Ripley on Fury 161 where she has to rescue numerous prisoners from the aliens, destroy aliens on the way and ultimately escape the planet. Looking back, it really doesn't follow the plot of the movie at all does it?

As a game it's a reasonable action game with a nice soundtrack by Matt Furniss and a reasonable variety of weapons that each have specific uses. The automatic rifle reaches across the screen and has the most ammo available for it, the grenade launcher is very powerful but ammo is scarce for it, the flamethrower is a strong short-range weapon and the grenades seem useless at first but are good for clearing out enemies at an angle and below, or for dropping on a ledge from a ladder below.

There are a few mission types: Mission is the most common, with aliens patrolling and prisoners who have to be rescued within the time limit before the exit door opens. There is only one Mayhem mission (stage 5) where the single goal is to get to the exit in time. Two Rescue missions have no enemies or nearly none and the main goal is just to find and release the prisoners before leaving. Lastly, there are five Guardian levels where Ripley must destroy a larger alien before leaving. All the bosses are the same, except for the final boss which is simply two of the boss aliens instead of one. The boss design is lacking which is unfortunate, but I still had fun learning this game.

Run notes:

It's easy to go out of bounds in some spots. At around 29:30 I accidentally clip into a wall and start zipping upwards, which has been easily reproducible. It is also possible to clip out of bounds while in a tunnel, which shifts the gameplay view outside the tunnel while the player is still inside. This happened on a previous playthrough and I was trapped and had to kill myself to escape.

Ripley does not start the level with 100% health. If there is a health pickup at the start of the stage, pick it up for an extra boost.

Completing a mission without taking a hit awards a 500,000 No Hit Bonus. Two of these were collected during the run, on levels 1 and 9. Finishing the game normally yields less than a million points, so score runs would need as many of these as possible.
