Rescuing/repairing an abandoned arcade cab. Part eleven.
Well, a few months have passed since the last update and what've I done with the cab in all that time? Firstly, fitted a few more buttons, fitted a few more bolts to hold the control deck in place, wired up a kick harness for Street Fighter 2 and then promptly ripped it all out again as I'd been gifted an rgb-pi+. And then burnt out my fancy 6-button, arcade psu-powered supergun with said rgb-pi+ so had to unwire that and re-wire my original supergun, running off an atx psu. And then got a full rgb pi with a raspberry pi3, which worked ok, but some games ran a little too slowly. So when Pimoroni recently got some pi4s in stock I snapped one up, rebuilt the rgbpi image and here we are. Then Flo masked off the edges of the tv screen so it all looks so much better.
Jobs still to do:
Repaint the entire cab.
Replace beaten up old T-moulding with something nicer and newer.
Fix/replace my burnt out supergun so I'm only running one psu. And try not to burn it out again.
Add a trackball and/or spinner controller.
Make the control panel look a bit nicer, maybe cut a whole new panel that fits better and then add a perspex/acrylic top?
Fix things down inside so they're less likely to slide around if I move the cab about.
Wire up buttons 5 and 6 for each controller (which involves soldering directly to the rgb-pi)
Whittle down the amount of roms that I'm never going to play, like all the various duplicates/mahjongg/smut titles. And also driving games that require a steering wheel and other stuff like that.
Get better at playing games.
Obviously, some of these are going to take a lot longer than others but, for now, it's good enough to play on, I feel.

Some people have said I should set up a tip jar, to help with cost of repairs and the like. As I can't really offer anything other than thanks I don't feel Patreon is particularly suitable, so I've set up this - https://ko-fi.com/gigerpunk
Absolutely no obligation, I'm not doing any content just for people who pay and not doing adverts of any kind, it's just there for those who'd like to help out occasionally.
