Resident Evil 2 is here! Claire & Leon arrive at Raccoon City only to find themselves beginning a destiny that would change their lives forever. Together with Ada Wong and Sherry Birkin they must fight through the zombie infested Raccoon City Police Department and uncover the mystery of William Birkin's G-Virus.
Taken place two months after the original Survival Horror - Resident Evil. It continues the story of Umbrella. Chris, Jill and the rest of S.T.A.R.S were unable to warn the city of Umbrella inc.'s evil plans. Now the virus has gotten loose again, infecting the cities population. All that remains is hope. Hope that you can escape the living nightmare with your life.
Resident Evil 2 is one of my favourite PS1 games. Along side the original and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, it remains a classic, near flawless masterpiece of horror, action and beauty. Rarely will you find a video game with the master class camera angles and jaw dropping stunning environment. Matched only by Resident Evil 2's soundtrack. Music that will remain with you the rest of your life. Resident Evil 2 has everything one wants in a video game, then gives you extra ice-cream to enjoy alongside it.
No matter how many years pass; Resident Evil 2 continues to be a game I can play on repeat. A Resident Evil 2 Walkthrough where every secret is uncovered, every note read, every puzzle being appreciated for how well crafted they are. The pacing of Raccoon City Police Station and the RPD Police Station layout being perfect without fault. The way Claire and Leon peel back the mysteries of how zombies managed to take over Raccoon City. The lore of Resident Evil 2, like Resident Evil 1 and RE3: Nemesis; is fitting, flows well between the games, and has a serious, dark tone that became lost after the release of Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
This Playstation 1 survival horror adventure was ahead of its time. It's why Resident Evil still stands today when beautiful franchises like Silent Hill and Fatal Frame either disappeared, died off, or fight for low budget ports of older titles. When you play as Claire Redfield, or Leon Kennedy, and you explore the 2nd floor of the RPD station, you see all around you hours of hard work from Capcom has they pushed the PS1 console to its limits. From beautifully detailed backgrounds, to great sound design of enemy zombies moaning, or the simple trancing way the characters run with the sound of their foot steps putting you into a peaceful daze. The Resident Evil series on the PS1 was nothing short of a diamond in gaming.
While Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece in its own right and deserves all the love and more that it gets. The original three Resident Evil games are just as worthy. Each with their own identity that sets them apart. RE1's amazing mansion and crazy cutscenes, RE2 with its perfected story telling, fleshed out world, and improved art direction, and RE3: Nemesis with its story of loss, total chaos, fast paced gameplay, high quality FMVs, and of course; Nemesis; the best Resident Evil villain to date.
Somewhere around the HD era of gaming the Resident Evil series fell off. Whether it was a change in staff at Capcom, or the total change in style of gaming as a whole worldwide, Resident Evil, to me.. never again reached its peak of the original 3, REmake 1, and RE4 on PS2 / Gamecube. Perhaps i'm old, is what some may say. But I introduced Resident Evil to my younger sister and she has fallen in love with the survival horror King of gaming. Like myself, she sees the modern titles and feels nothing, but throw on Resident Evil 2 and her eyes light up with joy. It's not that we're older, it's that the style of survival horror games we loved is nowhere to be seen today. The Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 era of Resident Evil, of horror games, was the last we seen a company push everything I could. The last where audio design, soundtrack, and gameplay came before graphics and long cutscenes that look good to casuals that play every game once and forget it existed.
I hope that by making Resident Evil walkthroughs that I can win over some new viewers who never played the classics before that will then go and enjoy these PS1 masterpieces first hand.
