Then there's the sound design, which deserves a special mention. The eerie creaks, distant groans, and sudden, deafening crashes are designed to keep you on edge the entire time. If the visuals don’t get you, the audio will. Every footstep echoes ominously, every zombie growl makes you reconsider your life choices. It's like they hired a team of sadistic sound engineers with the sole purpose of making you jump out of your skin.
The puzzles, oh the puzzles. In the original, they were charmingly obtuse. Now, they're modernized but no less maddening. Because nothing says "survival horror" like frantically searching for a random jewel to open a door while being hunted by an unstoppable tyrant. Speaking of Mr. X, his relentless pursuit in this remake is enough to make you wish for the sweet release of a game over screen. His heavy footsteps are the drumbeat of your impending doom.

Their expressions of fear and determination are so lifelike that you can't help but root for them – even as you guide them into increasingly horrific situations.
