Wow. That QTE really sucks. The first time I wasn't paying attention, so that was on me I suppose. The second time I was banging it from the jump. It was only when I started hitting the button *before the prompt showed up* that it worked. It's insane that the checkpoint is at the start of the mine cart ride.

IIRC, this was one of the earlier QTE-heavy games (after the much earlier Shenmue, of course). How naive I was at the time to think it wasn't the start of something darker.
