After nearly two years I finally start a walkthrough of one of my favourite game series - *Resident Evil*. One of the greatest survival horror games ever made, and it's on the Gamecube/Nintendo Wii, making it the first Wii title on my channel, and second Nintendo title (first being Pokemon Yellow). I am looking so forward to this! So get a snack, turn off your bedroom light, grab your headphones and enjoy!
I am playing on normal mode / mountain climbing. You unlock hard mode by beating the game along with Chris or Jill's extra costumes. I will be using their default S.T.A.R.S uniforms for story purposes in these let's plays.
I can never get enough of zombies. To me zombies and the classic Resident Evil games are timeless masterpieces that will probably never be topped. Sure, Resident Evil games aren't the scariest of horror games around, but the Resident Evil universe, characters, plot (as chessy as it is) make this franchise one of my favourite of all time. Well, at least up until Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Yeah, I am one of those that dislikes the series change with the 4th installment. As great a game that Resident Evil 4 was, it just wasn't Resident Evil to me. Pre-RE4 will always be my favourite, and I hope that the Resident Evil Remastered versions on PS3 / PS4 / Xbox 360 / Xbox One, and PC sell enough copies that it drives Capcom to bring the series back to its roots, and no, not just bringing back zombies or some elements. Full on Resident Evil. So please, if you love this Resident Evil go onto the Playstation Store, or Steam or whatever and buy this title! Show Capcom THIS is Resident Evil, this is the style of game we want. Survival Horror, not Action Adventure! The only way to do that is by shoving numbers in their faces. Bring Resident Evil back to its terrifying roots.

The first installment in the Resident Evil series, the game introduces series mainstays Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of an elite task force known as S.T.A.R.S. At the start of the game, players select one of them as they investigate the disappearance of their fellow team members on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Soon the team finds themselves trapped in an old mansion that is infested with zombies. By solving various puzzles, finding items and exploring the mansion, they uncover clues to solve the mystery, battling the various monsters of the mansion along the way using various firearms. Depending on the player's actions, the game ends in different ways. Resident Evil establishes many conventions seen in earlier games of the series, such as the control scheme, the inventory system as well as the typewriter-based saving process.
Gameplay mechanics are largely the same although most of the puzzles have been changed and the player can equip a defensive weapon that can be used when seized by an enemy. These defensive weapons include a dagger which can be used by both playable characters, whilst they also each have their own defensive weapon exclusive to them. *Jill Valentine* uses a taser, while *Chris Redfield* is able to shove stun grenades into the zombies' mouths to detonate them with a pistol shot. These weapons can be set to either automatic or manual use by the player, saving them from taking damage, although they aren't unlimited, and they can only be used when grabbed by a monster. The zombies that are defeated but not destroyed (decapitated or burned) are mutating later in the game as the fast, dangerous and very aggressive Crimson Heads.
The atmosphere in this Resident Evil title is easily the greatest in the entire franchise. Not only because of the greater graphics, but the sound too. The moan of a zombie down a hallway hidden in darkness. The sound of their blood soaked shoes dragging themselves towards you, the wind, rain. The sound of a gun going off or defense grenade exploding. This Resident Evil is a near perfect masterpiece that any gamer worth his salt should have in his collection from a gameplay standpoint alone, the horror is just a magnificent bonus.
Capcom have done a lot for Resident Evil and despite the series' changes over time, I still love that they try to be creative. I just wish the modern Resident Evil games had this quality.
