0Resident Evil: Revelations is a survival horror game in which players must complete a series of scenarios that are collected into episodes. While most scenarios involve the player controlling Jill Valentine on a ghost ship, some require the player to control another character in a different setting. To progress through scenarios, players must complete a number of objectives, from solving puzzles to defeating bosses, collecting keys that open doors to new areas, and reaching certain points in the game.
As a survival horror game, Revelations emphasizes survival, evasion, and exploration over fast-paced combat by providing players with limited ammo, health, and movement speed. Players have the ability to run, climb stairs, swim and dive underwater for a limited period of time. Up to three firearms can be carried at once, in addition to the standard grenade and combat knife. Firearms range from pistols to shotguns, submachine guns and shotguns. The game is played from a third-person perspective, but switches to a first-person or over-the-shoulder perspective—depending on the platform on which the game is played—when aiming a firearm to shoot at enemies.
As Valentine, players can upgrade firearms by finding special items throughout the game. Players can also perform melee attacks when the enemy is stunned after being shot at the right time. Ammo and health items are scattered throughout the game to help players manage their resources. A device called Genesis can be used to scan and find hidden items in nearby neighborhoods. An automatic map feature is available to help players navigate the game.
In addition to the game's single-player campaign, Revelations features a more action-oriented mode, called Assault Mode, in which one or two players can battle their way through a selection of scenarios modified from the single-player campaign. These usually feature enemies of varying strength for the player to defeat. Once the scenario is complete, players are rewarded with experience and battle points which can be exchanged for various weapons and items in the shop. Gaining experience and acquiring new equipment allows players to progress to higher and more challenging scenarios. As the player progresses throughout the game, the player can also unlock multiple characters to use in the single player campaign and Attack Mode, with each character having a different set of abilities and melee attacks.[6] The game supports StreetPass functionality which allows different players to exchange items for use in the game.
