RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE MULTIPLAYER MODE. ReVerse MP Mode In Resident Evil 8
The heroes and villains of the Resident Evil franchise will square off in mortal combat in Resident Evil Re:Verse, a new multiplayer deathmatch game, Capcom announced Thursday during its Resident Evil Showcase presentation.
Resident Evil Re:Verse will be released alongside Resident Evil Village in May, and will be free to owners of that game. Players will battle each other in third-person as Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kenney, Nemesis, Hunk, Chris Redfield, Ada Wong, and Jack Baker, in a combat arena that appears to be based on the Raccoon City Police Department from 2018’s Resident Evil 2 remake.
In addition to human-controlled opponents, it appears Re:Verse will also throw AI-controlled monsters like the Hunter Gamma from Resident Evil 3 and Molded from Resident Evil 7 at players. A brief gameplay teaser shows that Re:Verse will use stylized, cel-shaded graphics to differentiate itself from the more photorealistic Resident Evil games of the past few years.
Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda said that Re:Verse is one of the ways the company is celebrating the Resident Evil franchise’s 25th anniversary. A closed beta test for the multiplayer game is planned to kick off on Jan. 28 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. Applications are currently open for that beta.
The Resident Evil franchise has been fodder for a variety of multiplayer games over the years, which have ranged from beloved (Resident Evil Outbreak) to widely panned (Umbrella Corps). Capcom attempted a new type of Resident Evil multiplayer with last year’s Resident Evil: Resistance, a cooperative/competitive online game that shipped with the Resident Evil 3 remake.
Resident Evil Village will be released worldwide on May 7, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
Resident Evil Village will include a 6-player deathmatch game called RE:Verse

COMMENTS
During a livestream today, Capcom showed off the first substantial Resident Evil Village gameplay footage, and also announced something new: a multiplayer mode called RE:Verse (pronounced 'are-ee-verse,' not 'reverse') that'll come free with Village.
Outside of being bundled with it, RE:Verse doesn't seem to have much to do with Village. Rather, it's being pitched as a treat for Resident Evil's 25th anniversary. It will feature "beloved Resident Evil characters as they clash in six-person deathmatches," says Capcom, with a minimum of four players per match.
There's a twist, too: "When players are defeated in combat, their character respawns by mutating into a bioweapon to enact revenge on their foes."
A comic book-style dot pattern filter gives RE:Verse a somewhat distinctive look (well, it looks like 3D art with dots on it), and to be honest, it looks incredibly awkward to play, which is pretty Resident Evil of it.
I'm mildly curious. The over-the-shoulder perspective isn't too fashionable in games these days (even in Resident Evil itself), and especially not in multiplayer games. I was just talking about Lost Planet, another Capcom third-person shooter, the other day—I miss that clunky-ass series, and I could see RE:Verse being a temporarily fun (possibly janky) way to goof off. Unnecessary multiplayer modes are sometimes great. Mass Effect 3's comes to mind.
Beta signups for RE:Verse have been open for a little while, although we only found out exactly what it was today. You can still sign up for a chance to participate here, and the first session will be held on January 27.
We also learned today that Resident Evil Village will release on May 7—and RE:Verse with it, presumably, since it's a free pack-in. Capcom hasn't said whether or not RE:Verse will also be sold separately. Multiplayer mode Resident Evil: Resistance was included with Resident Evil 3 Remake, but not sold separately, so don't expect it—this seems to be the same kind of thing.
I'll leave you with some official RE:Verse screenshots to mull over:
