NOTE: With PS4 and Nintendo Switch releases already gone, all 12 games in Ziggurat's Retro Classix line (including this one) are going to be delisted on April 30th, 2024, likely due to the license with G-Mode Corporation (who own the Data East IP and back catalogue) expiring. Meanwhile, poor Fighter’s History is still listed as “Coming soon”, a state it’s been in since it was announced alongside the rest of these games in 2021. Not sure what happened to that one, but it's safe to say that its Retro Classix re-release is cancelled.
Also of note, prior to the delisting, the Retro Classix port of Night Slashers was seriously given the short end of the stick in the emulation department. According to its Steam store page, the user reviews are "Mostly Negative". Besides the fact it only contains the censored US version, the port suffers from numerous graphical issues with animations stuttering, flicker, transparency issues and slowdown. Stage 3 audio is messed up throughout the whole levelthere was even a glitch where the stage 4 boss couldn't be hit. When compared to the other games in the Retro Classix line, I can't say I blame them. The game itself is pretty good, it's just a shame that things went very wrong when trying to port this game. Ah well, maybe Blaze Entertainment could convince G-Mode Corporation to do a Data East Arcade 2 cart and include this as one of the games, alongside other games in the Retro Classix line that didn't get the chance to shine on the Evercade before. Someday, perhaps.
