The year is 2020: A series of nuclear explosions have leveled the city of New York. The cause: mishandling of plutonium secretly hidden beneath the Statue of Liberty. The government has declared the demolished city a “Nuclear Zone,” restricting all travel in and out of the area.

In a secret lair, high above the wasted skyline, a twisted scientist has mutated the genes of hundreds of unwary victims; turning them into ferocious fighting machines. His goal? Use their numbers and advanced weapons to gain total control over the ruins of New York.

As the most merciless of mercenaries, you have been hired by the government to exterminate the widespread infestation of dangerous mutants to regain control of the “Big Apple.”

NOTE: With PS4 and Nintendo Switch releases already gone, all 12 games in Ziggurat's Retro Classix line (including this one) are going to be delisted on April 30th, 2024, likely due to the license with G-Mode Corporation (who own the Data East IP and back catalogue) expiring. Meanwhile, poor Fighter’s History is still listed as “Coming soon”, a state it’s been in since it was announced alongside the rest of these games in 2021. Not sure what happened to that one, but it's safe to say that its Retro Classix re-release is cancelled.

Looking at the user reviews for all Retro Classix releases prior to the delisting, the following games have "Positive" reviews overall: Joe & Mac, Joe & Mac Returns, Bad Dudes and Gate of Doom. Ones with "Mixed" reviews are Two Crude (which is the one you are seeing right now), Super BurgerTime and Heavy Barrel. Night Slashers has "Mostly Negative" reviews. This leaves us with Express Raider, BreakThru and SRD - Super Real Darwin, as they didn't have enough user reviews to give us an overall classification, since the minimum requirement is at least 10 reviews. But I can confirm that all the reviews for Express Raider and SRD were positive. BreakThru had one negative review, but all the other five out of six were positive.
