Retro console & video game collecting tips part 1, best starter consoles
Here I have some tips on which are the best consoles to buy in order to start a video game collecting hobby.
The Xbox 360 is a good console to start with but make sure it's an e or a slim model. as they have better reliability and larger hard drives than older consoles. The only phat 360 I would recommend is the jasper hdmi model as it has a much lower rate of red ring of death. Go for the slim or e models that are black Matt or glossy in colour as special edition models command a premium.
Also the 360 has a huge library of games to buy and I forgot to mention in the video that you can also play Xbox original games on it as long as you have a hard drive connected
The Sony PlayStation 2 is also a good console to buy early as it is still comparatively cheap, is usually reliable (can sometimes have dvd drive issues) and also has a massive library of games and will also play PlayStation 1 games. Go for the black or silver ones as they are still fairly cheap - other coloured ones can be expensive.
The Nintendo Wii can also be bought very cheaply and again has a huge library of games available. But always check that it has GameCube controller and memory card ports by moving the side flaps down. I recommend the black or white consoles to start with (don't buy the pale blue or black and red mini ones as these will not play GameCube games and the red ones will but are a little expensive). Nintendo Wii consoles are also very easy to mod and put homebrew channel on which opens up even more to a even bigger library of games. Again like the PlayStation 2 they can sometimes have dvd drive faults so watch out for that.
The Sega Mega Drive is the fourth console I recommend purchasing early as they are still comparatively cheap to buy as they sold so many of them. They also have a massive library of games and are very strong and reliable but always buy yourself some air duster and alcohol cleaner to keep the cartridge slot nice, clean and free of dust and dirt.
So hopefully these little tips for starter consoles for collecting video games will help any budding collectors on their way to retro gaming paradise!!!
