Ridge Racer, released on the PlayStation in 1994 in Japan and in 1995 in America and Europe, is a port of the 1993 arcade racing game. Famed for its use of texture-mapped 3D graphics in an era where it was mainly 2D for fast action, or flat-shaded 3D graphics for the experimental.
It has the distinction of being the first game to be released on the system across the world, and even though it started out in arcades, it became a household name for the PlayStation, with a further three games releasing on the system, and a fifth being released on the PlayStation's successor.
So...how does it stack up as a racing game? How does it handle its conversion from arcade to console? And most importantly...is it worth importing?
