Retro Revival, Part #8 - Aliens vs Predator (1999/2010, Steam)
The best Aliens vs Predator game so far has been re-released on Steam in a version called "Classic 2000", which is compatible with modern operating systems and graphics cards.
In my opinion, Rebellion's first AvP (not counting the earlier Jaguar game) is one of the most memorable shooters from the late 90s due to the game's great atmosphere, minimalist design and hardcore difficulty. AvP comes with three campaigns - one for each species (human, alien, predator) - and the gameplay in each segment feels radically different from the others. If you haven't checked out AvP yet, now is a great time to do so.
The gameplay in this video is not from the regular singleplayer mode but instead shows the unique "Skirmish" mode, in which a player can test his or her skills by fighting off seemingly endless waves of enemies.

User "Xenomrph" has made a truly excellent Let's Play of this game (including extensive commentary about how the game fits into the overall AvP lore), and here's a link to his playthrough of the first Marine level. Note: Xenomrph's videos were initially available on the now-defunct video sharing site GameVee where they benefitted substantially from increased resolution and a larger view window.

Also, here's a great article from RPS about the game:
