Corpse Killer is far from a great game, but I was won over by the cheesy B-rate video and the engaging (albeit ridiculous) plot. Even when the action isn't great, this full-motion video game knows how to keep things moving. I gave it a C.

But you don't care what I have to say. You're here to find out what the critics of Electronic Gaming Monthly, GamePro and other classic magazines said at the time. Let's start out this look back with Next Generation, who absolutely HATED this game. The nameless writer only gave this game one star out of five, complaining that Corpse Killer is a decent shooter with some great video footage and some extremely repetitive shooting. Yeah, that sounds about right.

GamePro was a little more forgiving. Game Over Man scored the game a 3.5 out of 5, enjoying much of the goofiness Corpse Killer has to offer. He noted that hardcore shoot-em-up vets may get a kick out of it, but fans of drive-in horror movies may have mixed feelings. His review was appallingly non-committal.

Over at Electronic Gaming Monthly, Sushi X gave the game a 5 out of 10. He noted early on that he isn't a fan of the full-motion video genre and that it always feels like they leave too much out. At one point he asks you to call him impatient, and then argues that he needs more than eye candy. He's not wrong.

Also at EGM, Ed Semrad agrees that you absolutely must like b-rate movies to have a good time with Corpse Killer. He wasn't as thrilled with the mindless shooting, calling the game okay, but not great.

After pulling scores from six different classic game magazines and averaging them together, Corpse Killer scores a 50%. That is exactly what I gave it at Defunct Games.
