I recently took a risk and purchased a Canon 5D Mark III on eBay from a seller named BigValueInc that was selling a Canon 5D Mark III (body only) for $2599 which is the same price as a new Canon 5D Mark II from anywhere else. It seemed suspicious but I talked to two other people that purchased cameras from this seller and claimed they were not an authorized canon dealer but they were legit. I decided to take a leap and purchased the camera knowing the PayPal protection would save me if I encountered a problem. When I received the camera I was a little shocked to see that it was the kit box with the included lens since I only purchased the body. After opening the box it was clear that the lens was removed from the packaging but everything else was brand new and untouched.
I contacted the seller to let them know it was not as advertised since on eBay it said it was brand new in a sealed never opened box which was false. They quickly got back to me and said they would pay to have the item returned immediately or give me a free 2 year extended warranty on it which I decided to accept. So now I have a warranty through them if anything goes wrong which is nice since they are not an authorized canon dealer. I inspected the camera carefully and determined that it had never been used before, it was completely pristine. Also the rest of the packaging seemed right and nothing was out of place.
I also noticed when I turned the camera on that London was selected by default (not some place in USA) so I suspect this is an imported Canon camera and not a USA version which I can't tell any difference what so ever but I'm sure that also contributed to the reduction in cost the BigValueInc seller is able to offer. But all things considered I have a pristine, fully functional Mark III that appears to be working exactly how it should and I got it for the same price as a Mark II which I already own. Now I'm selling my Mark II to help fund it.
