Though Metroid and Castlevania came before it, this version of the game is also like a "Metroidvania" type game in that it's an action platform type game with some RPG elements built-in. My only gripe with this game is that back in the day, there was no way to save progress on it because it did not have a Zelda type save feature nor did it have a password feature like Metroid. So if you wanted to beat the game, it had to be done in one sitting. If it was late at night and you were too tired, you needed to tell your parents to not turn off the Nintendo cause it would erase your progress (and then they would still turn it off).
