R.I.P. - Ted White (Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Final Chapter) Niagara Falls Comic Con 2019
Ted White -- best known for playing 'Jason Voorhees' in "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" -- discusses his career, reveals fascinating behind the scenes stories and answers fan questions at his 2019 Niagara Falls Comic Con Q&A panel.
Alex Bayouth (January 25, 1926 – October 14, 2022), known professionally as Ted White, was an American actor and stuntman who has notably doubled for Fess Parker, Clark Gable, Richard Boone and John Wayne. For "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949), he was approached due to his Marine Corps background to be a consultant on the layout of the island and subsequently met John Wayne who he began doubling for him in 1952.
In 1984, White played hockey masked murderer 'Jason Voorhees' in "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" when the director required a large man for the part. White reluctantly accepted because he needed the money, but was uneasy about playing one of the most infamous murderers in screen history, so asked not to be credited on screen for his part. He was later credited for the archive footage of him as 'Jason' that was used in the opening montage for "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood" (1988). White was offered the role of 'Jason' for "Friday the 13th: A New Beginning" (1985) and "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" (1986), but turned them down. The roles ultimately went to stuntmen Tom Morga and C. J. Graham, respectively. Despite his initial distaste for the role, he is considered by many fans to have been one of the best Jasons.
White has had roles in multiple western films and in such television series as Daniel Boone, The Andy Griffith Show, Hunter, Magnum, P.I. and The Rockford Files, usually in tough-guy roles such as police officers or hired thugs. He has also worked in the films "Escape from New York" (1981), "Tron" (1982), "Starman" (1984), "Romancing the Stone" (1984), "Silverado" (1985), "Major League" (1989) and "Gone in 60 Seconds" (2000).
