Overdrive mode seems to be a secret difficulty mode, I think you can unlock it when you've beaten Phantasm. (I don't really know this actually, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)
I'm pretty sure that I had some lag, at some points the game just runs slower.. I think this speed is still good, since Dxtory or Fraps would've made recording lag even more :V
Taken from my Phantasm clear: "the mechanics, the Touhouwiki currently doesn't hold a good amount of information about it. So I'll just try to do my best by explaining it myself. (if I make any mistakes, make sure to let me know!)
The controls are the same as in the official Touhou games, the arrow keys for movement. Z for shooting; X for bombing. Shift is focus, yet control is fast-forwarding (does work everywhere.) It gets interesting when you know that holding the X button with a full gauge to at the right side of the screen starts a Liberation Mode. This consumes 1 bomb in the process, once Liberation Mode is activated it starts of as a short bomb which in all cases (I think all.) do clear bullet-clear the screen. They also do hurt enemies, Liberation Mode gives your character a stronger shottype which tends to be wider (for most shottypes, not all.) while it's in effect; does make the amount of items that fall to the bottom of the screen when enemies are killed more. Also Liberation Mode does multiply the resource-crystals (pink is for lives and green is for bombs, they value as one piece if not collected with Liberation Mode; 2 when Liberation mode is in effect, Liberation Mode does not multiply full bombs and lives.) You can fill your gauge by collecting items or blue crystals thas midbosses and bosses do drop, after a Liberation Mode it takes a bit more items and crystals to get another Liberation Mode. After an extend or bomb is gotten it takes more crystals to get the next extend or bomb.
There's also a PoC for item-collection. (doesn't work for crystals.)" Also, at 500 items you get a life-part and at 1000 items a bombpart, per 500 items this switches.
In Overdrive mode you go through 4 stage portions: stage 1, stage 2, stage 4 and stage 5. there's no stage 3; stage 6 only got a Yamatoyo no Momohime battle, the bossbattles are really cool though.
Now to say my own things.. I think that Futo-C is a pretty amazing shottype for the Overdrive Mode, although she breaks the game at parts. (Either good or bad for you, walls happen a lot so that's one thing that can turn out badly.) She's probably the best for scoring due to her huge item collection, her attacks slow down bullets so much that you can probably move around safely until you've created a wall in which you'll get hit. I'm entirely sure you can't avoid that from happening with her.. Around her there's some buzzing shield, when enemies hit that shield they'll lose a lot of hitpoints and can pretty much die to just that. (pretty convenient for homing enemies.) This is also very strong once you're unfocused, you can pretty much abuse this at bosses.. It does allow speedkilling for a bit, try to experiment with the placement you're hitting with the no focus attack as certain places will do more damage against the bosses. Also remember to use a bomb before you're going full out on bosses with your no focus attack.
Getting hit will lead to losing your entire bombstock as a deathbomb or just dying in case you don't have any bombs, therefore it's the best to bomb yourself.
I do think I did very well in this run since winning with 0/0 left is apparently very normal, I also do think I scored very high so I'm satisfied. It's mighty fine to finish Riverbed Soul Saver this way c:
