Gives the team some speed for revenge kills. Chip damage and item removal in stally games. Can tank Mega Zard Y's Fire Blast on its Mega evolving turn, before Hippo can risk coming in.

Checks powerful wallbreakers that rely on Outrage, like Garchomp. Last resort check to Outrage Charizard X. Calm Mind is needed to beat CMers like Suicune, but Heal Bell would work.
This spread: avoids the 2HKO from Manaphy rain-boosted Scald while burned. Survives two Mega Charizard Y Fire Blasts in Sandstorm. Walls Life Orb NP Thundurus. Walls non-Specs Hydro Pump Keldeo. Can usually outstall LO Volcarona's Fire Blasts.

Most replaceable move here is probably actually BP, for Superpower (useful for Char-X).
SD + U-turn combo helps wear down stall teams (Alomomola, Quagsire, Mega Slowbro and Mega Sableye switch-ins). U-Turn helps escape Magnezone traps.
