Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
Mega Man 8 Full Game Run Pt. 1
Now comes the 8th game, Mega Man 8. This game came out in December 1996 for the PlayStation in Japan and everywhere else one year later for both the PS1 and Sega Saturn. It even came out for Microsoft Windows 20 years later.
Before I explain what it’s about, let me detail how it came about. Capcom pitched the idea for the game to Sony for the PS1 but it got turned down not once but twice. I think it’s mostly due to Sony having lousy management (Bernie Stolar probably). So they instead went to SEGA and it went through. The game would come to the Sega Saturn to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Sony eventually gave in and allowed the game on the PS1 but with a condition. But Capcom decided to screw Sony by making an altered version of Mega Man 8 that removed several things to differentiate it with the Saturn one. The Saturn one especially the US version is very rare. Look it up on eBay and you’ll see what I mean.
Anyway, the plot involves two robots battling in space and their battle has them crashing on Earth. Meanwhile Mega Man battles Bass once again and beats him but gets word from Dr. Light that a strange meteor landed on Wily Island. So he’s ordered to investigate. We investigate but Wily beats us to it obtaining what he seeks. He gets away but Mega Man sees a robot in the wreck. He takes it back to Dr. Light for repairs but now he has to stop Dr. Wily yet again.
Mega Man 8 makes the jump from 16 to 32-bit and it shows. The game looks better and plays better. He still has the ability to jump, slide and shoot (can use charge shots too) but now has access to a nifty new weapon, the Mega Ball. It can be used as an offensive weapon but it has another use, the ability to double jump. If used well enough, you can pretty much jump repeatedly to reach higher areas. Skilled players can pull it off well enough. For all the good Mega Man has, there are some negatives and the voice acting is one of them. The voice acting is just bad. Real bad.
We tackle the Intro Stage as well as four of the eight Robot Masters: Tengu Man, Clown Man, Grenade Man and Frost Man. Once that’s done, the robot we brought back for repairs wakes up and upon seeing the evil energy capsules destroys them and heads off. We follow him to a cave only to face him. He isn’t hard but it seems we now know the location of Wily’s Base. We head for it only for a monster to come in and stop us. Just as things get bad, the mysterious robot saves us, calling himself as Duo. Duo comes from a faraway world that fights to rid evil energy from the universe. Seeing that it is within Wily’s base and protected by a barrier, we now have to head off to take down the remaining robots.
We’ll see that happen in Part 2.
