Species ALRE is an indie game currently in alpha development where you start with a harmless little wormy thing and evolve and smash and mutate him into a lean mean killing machine. Or you sit and watch as a total extinction event takes place. Or some varied combination of these. You can even take a little rover and drive around looking at what your little island of life has mutated lately, and also mix genes from one organism to a totally different one. Has Monsanto heard of this game?

The alpha version is free, or you can donate $10 and get the full version when it comes out, and the plans for this game are pretty ambitious. One criticism I would have in it's current version is that there is no plant evolution, only the offspring of the one species of animal, and plant evolution is a critically important factor in animal evolution, but maybe that will be in a future version.
