A playthrough of Ocean's 1991 license-based action game for the Nintendo Game Boy, RoboCop 2.

Clarence Boddicker and Dick Jones are dead, but crime never sleeps. Rising to fill the resultant power vaccuum is Cain, a consummate douche who, backed by OCP, has taken to flooding the streets of Old Detroit with the hot new designer drug known as "Nuke."

The ever vigilant RoboCop, a freight train of justice and a champion of downtrodden, steps up once again to fight corrupt corporate politicians and to clean up the streets.

RoboCop 2 is a stripped-down handheld conversion of the NES game of the same name (https://youtu.be/Mnf7utJoNvc) that came along eleven months after the release of the original RoboCop Game Boy game (https://youtu.be/1a0kna0v4fc).

Like the NES version, RoboCop 2 for the Game Boy is a plod-and-gun platformer that tasks Alex Murphy with arresting drug addicts as he shoots at thugs, leaps about between bits of scaffolding, jetpacks his way through the skies, and maintains his grip on his humanity by solving slider puzzles.

And like the NES version, it's a pile of pants. Robocop handles like a shopping cart filled with bricks, and the levels are full of traps that you can't see without constantly hitting Select to shift the camera around. It's easier than its NES counterpart thanks to the simplified stage designs, but it's still not much fun at all to play.

The music is nowhere near as good as the first RoboCop GB game's, either, though the graphics do at least look nice for such an early release on the system.

(For a good laugh, check out that ending image at 25:32. Why does RoboCop have sciatica?)

With today's release of Robocop: Rogue City (which is fantastic, by the way - would anyone be interested in seeing a playthrough?), I thought it would be -fun- informative to cast a look back at one of Ocean's famously inept takes on the franchise. Did any of you guys play this one way back? What did you think of it?
