Really tough and early "move and fire" double joystick game but this was a smash hit and paved the way for the (at least spiritual) sequel, SMASH T.V.! Here you move an enhanced humanoid around in a fixed screen, immediately surrounded by enemies upon being placed on the battlefield. The controls for the arcade joysticks are SHARP as you move around with one and fire rapid-fire shots with the other. In order to get a decent score you MUST learn to collect the wandering humanoid family members-- Mommy, Daddy and Mikey; each is 1,000 points more than the last (on your same life/wave). Your main goal is to eliminate all enemies (that can be destroyed) in order to go to the next wave. Enemies are the basic "grunts" (red robotrons that don't fire but move towards you), "hulks" (green robotrons that can't be destroyed and just slow down when you shoot them, and hunt down the humanoid family to kill them by touch), "enforcers" (blue enemies borne from a pulsing sphere and bombard you with deadly firepower if you don't eliminate them quickly), "tanks" (ANNOYING enemies that are borne from bouncing spheres and also blast the hell out of you if not quickly taken care of), and "brain robotrons" that turn the family members into deadly zombies and shoot them at you, as well as fire a homing laser. SO tough and running into an enemy or getting shot is an eventuality for sure.. but do all you can to collect all the humanoids you can. Note that the "brain robotron" waves especially have a ton of humanoids to collect (or for them to turn evil). "Vid Kidz" was founded by famous Williams and Midway employees Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar, who would help create many instant classics like SMASH T.V., MORTAL KOMBAT, DEFENDER, CRUIS'N games, etc.
