Rogue One Review

* So happy to have a new Star Wars movie, outright * Saw it first at Lucasfilm in San Francisco thanks to Maker / Disney
* Have seen three times in 2D, no plans on seeing in 3D
* This review is full of spoilers; I waited long enough and so did you
* Planned on seeing it last night before news of Carrie's passing - final scene more eerie
* Not enough merch (theater merch sucks here)
Upon First Showing: * This movie is about hope, first and foremost - so much to parse
* Felt the need to see it a few more times to take everything in (like TFA)
* Already wanted to know a lot more about many of the characters
* Perfect lead into ANH events, giving them all new meaning w/o taking away
* ANH backstory was filled in nicely and appropriately without overreaching
* Different, but no intent to have new film top all others - just another story
* This should become the first Star Wars movie you intro someone to
* Starts slow, pulls you in, third act WHAM BOOM BANG
* Good choice for first "Star Wars Story" - familiar events
* Warsiest of all Star Wars films
* Wish for a live-action episodic TV show - this could've worked better as one

Didn't Like at First Showing:

* Dr. Evazan & Ponda Baba run-in at Jedha Market
* Almost too many characters to keep up with
* CGI Tarkin or Leia did not seem convincing at that distance
* No crawl, disappointing - REALLY threw me off for a while
* Wasn't sure where it was going by mid-point
* Missing Rey lightsaber flying-into-hand moment
* Not sure I felt deaths as intimately - throw aways to larger story?
* Not enough aliens, not enough female representation in battle

Liked at First Showing:

* Loved Seeing ANH pilots!!!
* Amazing but Terribly short Vader final scene
* Compelling visuals and locations
* Good humor from K-2SO (many LOLs)
* Appreciated the Rebels nods / references
* Epic third-act battle made ROTJ battles look tame by comparison
* Liked seeing planet names on screen. Helpful.
* Made me reflect on my own relationship with Jedi * Diversity of cast
Further Thoughts:

* The Rebellion is not clean
* Listening to Catalyst on Audible was an immense help before second showing
* Keeping up with Rebels is a solid help
* Jyn is more reluctant, jaded compared to Rey
* Did Chirrut sense it was time to die (through the Force)?
* Can't rate or rank this among other Star Wars films
* Definitely better after second viewing
* By third viewing, this felt like a part of my Star Wars family
* Can't wait to watch it again, dissect it further
* Going to dive into different characters in future videos
* Adore Krennic's theme and the hauntingly beautiful "Hope" theme; Jyn's will catch on
* Tons of hidden surprises
* Enjoyed so many scenes
* Want to take in the novelization (likely audio book)
