Surprised there wasn't a video on this, at least not that I found. It's pretty simple to do, once Avi gives you the Ignigarde quest and you open Mt. Tomae you can visit Pyrix. Pyrix will ask for the Ice Sword in return for giving you the Ignigarde and you set out on your way. Or you can go back in and choose to fight him for it. If you lose against him, it doesnt count as a full game over and doesn't count towards your ER. What does count is the skills you spark trying to fight him, so you can repeatedly lose to him but learn more powerful skills very early. Just don't let your LP get below 3 with anyone, at that point leave to rest and come back as he can combo his tail whips and hit someone for 2LP easily.

In order to do this you must first take the feather of courage quest at the Melvir Pub, then climb Mt. Scurve and visit Avi. He'll ask you to get the Ignigarde from Pyrix. Once you do this you trigger Jelton being overrun with monsters, head there and talk to the bartender in the pub, this unlocks Mt. Tomae. Next, head out to the plains and go out of the southern exit back to the world map, enter Mt. Tomae and run down to B5 and meet Pyrix. Now you can go in and out and use his shortcut from B1 to B5 to quickly visit him again and fight as often as you like until you either kill him, give him the ice sword, or he becomes possessed by Saruin.
