The sun was shining on HMS Sutherland as the Type 23 frigate headed back out to sea ready for deployments following a four-year upgrade and overhaul.

HMS Sutherland is also the Royal Navy's fastest recorded frigate, achieving over 34 knots (39mph) during time trials in 2004.

HMS Sutherland broke with tradition as a bottle of Scottish whisky was broken against the hull at the launch ceremony instead of champagne.
