Game #38 is Sword of Vermilion on Sega Genesis, a JRPG.

The hero is tasked with defeating Tsarkon, an evil wizard by gathering the 8 rings of Good to counter Tsarkon's 8 rings of Evil. Navigation outside of towns takes place in a first-person CRPG style view (with a map to keep your bearings), and battles are action-based fights with 1-8 monsters at a time.
