This revenue surge is primarily attributed to the launch of the RTX 50-series graphics cards, which have proven to be a significant success for the company's gaming segment, despite its primary focus on AI infrastructure.
For context, the RTX 50-series launch has generated a higher gaming revenue than any previous GPU series for Nvidia. This contrasts with the RTX 30-series, which saw high demand from cryptocurrency miners, and the RTX 40-series, which launched as crypto GPU sales had already dropped. The strong performance of the RTX 50-series demonstrates robust demand from the core gaming market.
Nvidia's financial reporting now groups gaming with AI, with the section of its reports now titled "Gaming and AI PC." This change reflects that many customers, including individual professionals and schools, are using consumer-grade GPUs for AI workloads rather than solely for gaming. The company's partnership with OpenAI to support local AI models on RTX GPUs highlights the growing convergence of these two markets.
The launch of the RTX 50-series graphics cards was more closely spaced than previous generations. Following an initial period of limited availability, stock has stabilized, and many GPUs are now available at or near their original manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP).
