RTX NVENC & OBS v23: Better Quality and Performance than x264 at Medium?
Should you use NVENC or x264 for streaming? In this video, I compare how NVENC on GTX (Pascal) cards compares to NVENC on RTX (Turing) cards, which improvements the new NVENC implementation in OBS v23 bring and how NVENC compares against x264 at veryfast, faster, fast and medium.
TLDR: The new Nvidia Encoder (NVENC) on Turing GPU's provides significant improvements in both quality and performance while streaming compared to the older Pascal cards. This improvement holds true for the entire 20-series (RTX 2060, 2070, 2080, 2080TI) as well as the GTX1660TI. Further, with the recent update the OBS (v23), a new NVENC implementation further improves performance!
