RuneScape 2007 Official Old School Server - Tutorial Island and Cook's Assistant Quest Review (RG95)
Time travel doesn't exist, although I suppose that this is really the next best thing. How often do you get a chance to go back and play a game as it was 6 years in the past, and relive so many awesome memories?
RuneScape defined a good chunk of my later elementary school and early high school years. All of my friends played it, and every day after school as well as all night on weekends we trained and quested together. It was a simple game, where you sometimes had to work hard to reach your goals, although while playing with friends it was always a lot of fun. I even met one of my best friends, Zetsubou Matt, because of RuneScape.
Back in 2007 new great content was constantly being produced, brand new areas to explore were frequently added, epic quests were introduced twice a month, and the overall quality of the game only got better as time went on. The graphics slowly started to improve too before a massive overhaul in 2008, although as long as the game was fun the graphics didn't really matter to me.
Unfortunatly the same cannot be said for RuneScape today. A fundamental rule of the game had always been that levels and experience could not be bought, and that if someone had a high level it meant that they trained hard for it. In 2011/2012 a way to gamble real life money for experience points was introduced into the game, and players who had been around since the earliest days of the game were outraged, causing a massive uproar on the official forums. Not long after that, more microtransactions were added to the game, and eventually a bug filled combat update was introduced which would change the game forever and scare off many players as a result...
...until now. Jagex has realized just how many people liked the game more before it had been soiled by microtransactions and poorly executed updates. With Old School RS 2007 servers it gives a chance for those who enjoyed the game in the past to enjoy it once again. It's very unlikely that it will appeal to many people who didn't play the game back then due to the poor graphics and lack of polish in some places, although for many people this is exactly what they're always wanted.
So join me, 123andrew456, as I embark on an adventure that takes place 6 years in the past!
P.S. I wanted to record a bit more in this video, but I forgot just how long Tutorial Island was. If there is enough demand I will go back and record some more skills and quests later on!
