Running a TrueNAS SCALE VM in Proxmox VE

01. Download the TrueNAS Scale iso https://www.truenas.com/download-truenas-scale/
02. Log into the Proxmox web UI
03. Select a storage from the left navigation pane to download the .iso to
04. Select ISO Images in the left sub-navigation pane
05. and upload it to the Proxmox ISO image library
06. Right click the Proxmox node name ≫ Create VM
07. Give the VM a unique ID and Name ≫ Next
08. On the OS tab, Select the TrueNAS Scale installation .iso file, leave the Type as Linux and the Version as 5.x - 2.6 Kernel ≫ Next
09. Leave the defaults on the System tab ≫ Next
10. On the Hard Disk tab, set the Disk size to 16 GiB or more ≫ Next
11. On the CPU tab, set Cores to 2 or more and Type to host ≫ Next
12. On the Memory tab, set the Memory to 4096 or more ≫ Next
13. Leave the defaults on the Network tab ≫ Next
14. Verify the summary and click Finish
15. Right click the TrueNAS Scale VM in the left navigation pane ≫ Start
16. Click console in the left sub-navigation menu
17. At the boot menu, press Enter to select Start TrueNAS SCALE Installation
18. Select Install/Upgrade ≫ OK
19. If prompted about not having 8GB of RAM, select Yes to continue anyway
20. Press the space bar to select the QEMU HARDDISK ≫ Press Enter
21. Select Yes to continue the installation ≫ Press Enter
22. Select Administrative user (admin) ≫ Press Enter
23. Enter and confirm a password for the admin user ≫ Press Enter
24. After the installation completes, navigate to the VM ≫ Hardware menu in the Proxmox web UI and remove the TrueNAS Scale .iso from the CD/DVD drive
25. Back in the VM, select Reboot System ≫ Press Enter
26. Once TrueNAS Scale has finished booting, note the URL on the screen
27. Open a web browser and navigate to the TrueNAS Scale URL
28. Log into the Web UI with username admin and the password set during the installation
29. Welcome to TrueNAS Scale
