RUNNING ON AIR! Skip Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 in Sonic the Hedgehog - A Wild Glitch Appears! #sonic
Here's a level skip glitch you can use on Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 in Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. I like this glitch because it's fairly forgiving, meaning if you mess it up, you can just try again without pressure. Plus it's relatively easy to pull off, so I recommend giving it a shot if you're curious!
When Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 begins, press the button and the platform on the left will slide downward. Wait a few seconds for it to stop before following it to the left.
Once the platform is finished moving, stand on the right edge of the platform, but not too far to the right because we don't want Sonic to start his teetering animation. When Sonic is on the right side of the platform hold UP on the D-Pad to look up. This should cause the platform to disappear.
After you're standing on an invisible platform, jump to the right, then immediately jump to the right again as you land. You'll want to hold RIGHT for this entire section of the trick, and your second jump must be FRAME PERFECT as you land from the first jump.
But if you did the previous step correctly, keep holding to the right and Sonic will begin to run up and to the right PAST the slope, and he will start rising in midair while climbing an invisible hill.
Eventually Sonic will run far enough up and to the right that he will enter the ceiling. Keep holding RIGHT until the screen begins to scroll rapidly to the left. Once this happens, hold LEFT on the D-Pad and the screen will reverse direction. If you did everything correctly, the game will think you've completed the level, and this will take you to the Final Zone.
This method should allow you to safely and easily beat Scrap Brain Zone 3 in under a minute. If you want to do this trick FAST, however there are a few optimizations that allow you to speed up this process.
If after hitting the button, you do a full jump to the right before running left to the platform, the platform will be in position slightly earlier, which allows you to set up for the jumps faster.
Furthermore, after looking UP and causing the platform to disappear, most speedrunners will let go of UP and tap LEFT for just a frame before performing two FULL JUMPS to the right. This seems like a fairly consistent way of landing the second jump in a spot where Sonic will avoid running into that button, and therefore he will not lose speed as he runs up into the ceiling.
