"R.U.S.E." or "RUSE: The Art of Deception" is a strategic World War II RTS game involving the player using decoys and ruses to trick their enemies into traps, ambushes, and feints. The story-driven campaign takes place from the point of view of Major Joseph Sheridan of the United States Army. The game follows Sheridan and a cast of other characters as they battle through Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, and into Germany from the beginning of the war until its conclusion.

The game possesses a unique visual style. Instead of the traditional grime and darkness of traditional World War II RTS games, R.U.S.E. has a bright, artistic view of the war.
In addition to its "pulp and clean" World War II style, the game engine displays the world in a highly scalable fashion, which helps contribute to a sense of an actual battlefield, from the perspective of general or soldier.

Dimension is one of the fundamental aspects of R.U.S.E. The IRISZOOM Engine displays maps a hundred times larger than in traditional RTS games, which raises strategy to an unprecedented scale and gives deception a lot more depth. You are able to both command your units as a chief-in-command and manage your troops at a tactical level as a ground officer, for example by deploying a fake offensive on your opponent’s HQ while carefully hiding your infantry in villages to ambush the surrounding tanks.

"R.U.S.E." was released in 2010 by Eugen Systems (Wargame & Steel Division series) for Windows, and also unique for a RTS of the time, PS3 and 360.

There are four main characters:
Major Joseph Sheridan: the main character and commander of various United States Army Units.
Andrew Campbell: Sheridan's British military advisor.
Kate Garner: Sheridan's former military attaché but later reveals she was a spy defected to the Soviet Union.
General-Major Erich Von Richter: Sheridan's main rival and antagonist in the campaign; he is seen as a very detail-oriented person and portrays the art of commanding soldiers similar to chess.

There are also a few minor characters:
General Charles Wetherby: a fumbling failure of a general that always seems to lose countless men during his operations; surrenders during the mission Wacht Am Rhein to Otto Skorzeny's commando unit.
Kowalski: Sheridan's intel officer.
Angie Summers: an operative working for the British Intelligence and possibly romantically connected to Campbell.
Field Marshall Erwin Rommel: the commander of the German Afrika Korps, he promotes Von Richter to Korps Command.
Colonel Leduc: a French commander in charge of the Free French Forces in Northern Africa and Italy (and possibly Germany, if the player chooses).

Although the player plays as the United States in the campaign, other factions are present in the game and can be played in R.U.S.E. online. The factions include the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Japan and the Soviet Union. Each possesses a unique balance of strengths and weaknesses, which allows for more dynamic gameplay.
