After the start of the full-on conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russia has tried many things to get Russians on the frontlines - with the biggest effort being the mobilization, which started in September 2022. Back then, a lot of Russians were fleeing for other nearby countries. I left Russia a year ago as well. Now, however, it seems like Russia has learned their lesson: the government has just introduced a new "digital draft" law, according to which people can now be drafted by being sent a message from the government online. If the person being drafted fails to arrive to the military draft office, they get banned from leaving Russia completely, as well as having some of their other basic rights revoked. What is going on in Russia? Is this a sign of something big coming up? And what do Russians think? Let's talk about it.
