2A ruthless teenage gang stole £4million worth of high-value vehicles in a 10-month crime wave. The thieves, who are aged between 15 and 20, stole cars from outside people's homes while they slept.
The vehicles were stolen from various locations across Greater Manchester, including some parked outside Manchester Airport, a court heard. Before posting their crimes on Snapchat, they used a device to steal keyless Range Rovers, Land Rovers and Jaguars.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, in one night alone they stole four cars from the same house. The gang's victims included NHS workers and young women, and one told the court how her car was stolen just a day after she suffered a miscarriage.
The woman had to make her way to hospital on public transport for a surgical procedure after waking up to find her car had gone. Meanwhile, another woman hasn’t been able to sleep in her own bed since last September and a further victim missed seeing her dad before he died as she was busy organising insurance in the aftermath of the theft of her car.
Another family moved home after the burglary. Seven members of the Organised Crime Group behind the thefts were sentenced for 299 separate charges at Manchester Crown Court this week. They began their endeavour in 2021, with the thefts stretching across Greater Manchester and into Cheshire.
Police said that the stolen vehicles would be disposed of "by various means" after the gang used cloned plates and "chop shops" to strip down vehicles. Maliq Hutchinson-Khan, Niall Ritchie, Taylor Burns and Callum Parkes were all sentenced for their part in the thefts.
Two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also sentenced. A 16-year-old boy will be sentenced at Youth Court on Monday, August 7.
Hutchinson-Khan, 19, was sentenced to 31 months for three burglaries and three attempted burglaries. He was also sentenced for a domestic violence assault where he received a further eight months to run consecutively.
