Ryuusei no Rockman - Denpa Henkan! On Air! - Normal Playthrough
Motion controls are a thing. Oh, they are a thing.
In 2007, Takara Tomy released a TV plug-and-play game based on Megaman Star Force, called "Denpa Henkan! On Air!". It's a compilation of motion-based minigames, played using a controller shaped like Omega-Xis' head (similar to the in-game Mega Buster).
Very much like WarioWare, there's a few poses that you'll need to know before you play, as the game is built around them: there's "arm up", "arm across", "arm out", and "shake". As the technology of the time wasn't the most concise with tracking, there are times where the game will struggle recognizing certain poses. (In my case, I struggle to pull off "arm out", as well as transitioning between "arm out" and "arm across".) However, it is possible to find the "sweet spots" for each position to help you get into them faster, once you know what to look for. The game also comes with a left hand-orientation setting, to accommodate lefty players! (I'll go over that in a seperate vid, because it's pretty cool.)
Overall, the compilation's rather fun and has a nice arcade-y feel to it. It's a bit unfortunate that the tracking isn't the best, because the minigames feature some pretty fun ideas. In particular, Free Battle's premise is super cool, but it can be a bit of an effort to transition from Sword mode to Buster mode.
Oh, and if you're into collecting the IRL Battle Cards, "Denpa Henkan" came with a Pegasus Magic Mega card! You could use it with the Wave Scanner to do cool stuff in the Japanese version of the first DS game, or use it against your friends in the Wave Battle collectible card game!
All that said, here's a grand tour of every single minigame and mode, played on Normal so that you can get a good feel for what this game was like!
I'd like to think the e-frens at SciLab for helping make obtaining this game and recording it possible. As of this writing, the game's kind of expensive secondhand, and not exactly common, so I super appreciate the help! You can find their members all over the web, posting customs or programming jobs on twitter or reddit, or hanging out on their discord server. They're really kind people, and I'm glad to have met them.
I super hope you enjoy this vid as much as I did recording it! And if you can't get enough of this game, I do have other vids that focus on each minigame and their different difficulty levels!
