This is part 1 of a single-segment speed run of all characters of Saga Frontier. This was done on a PS2, SCPH-30001. The fast disk option was used. The controller model used was SCPH-10010. This run was recorded with a DVD recorder. Timing is from power-on until appearance in the 2nd Division. Single segment as previously means a ban on saves and quicksaves.

These videos are MQ anri-chan encodes.

Credit List:

This is similar, but with a one new addition.

*Addition on 26 February 2014: corrected for TAS attribution.

ハイジ: I borrow much of his route for Asellus; however, I compromise for the sake of my sanity.
knbnitkr: I first learned of early termination of the rune event from his TAS; apparently this was known in the Japanese SaGa community a number of years prior. I also first learned of the use of SnkeOil during Overdrive from his TAS.
gure and Achey: Two other Japanese TASers from whose runs I learned of enemy avoidance methods and event triggers. Also, I think skipping "The End" in Blue's chapter was discovered by gure.
start_button (すたーと): I used large portions of his route for Riki's chapter. His new run of T260G inspired changes in T260G's chapter.
masago53: The brilliant use of Hidebehind in Asellus' and Emilia's chapters is masago's idea. Once again I borrowed large portions of his route for these characters' chapters.
Pearl: If it weren't for Pearl's old RTA, then Lute's chapter would have been much slower. I had dismissed the Junk Shop as initially too slow; however, after reading Pearl's route, it was pretty clear that I could save time by exploiting it.
Zaraktheus: He has compiled a wonderfully useful mechanics FAQ; his tranlations of the combo data on sakura made planning for this run much easier.
http://www.uri.sakura.ne.jp/~saga/sf1/ : A Japanese Saga Frontier website that was also terribly useful in planning all along the way.
聖天使猫姫: I learned of various movement optimizations from a TAS of Red's chapter authored by this individual.
clowps (くろぷす): He's a real-time SaGa speed runner from whom I have acquired information.
みけぽん: The new Blue route borrows heavily from a route he devised. Also, one of his Riki runs made me realize a rather silly equipment choice in my old route.

Asellus:

Unplanned Battle Count: 1

Well, I didn't keep my promise; I ultimately use a route that doesn't recruit Thunder. However, in order to get more attempts beyond Lion Princess, I compromise and fight Devil Squid and Fire Sage kind of cautiously. It is possible to game over to Devil Squid with this method, but unlikely. The success rate against Fire Sage is 100%. If anyone has any interest in running this game, be prepared to lose runs against Green Sage and Lion Princess particularly the latter. The ideal Lion Princess battle requires the following:

1.Lion Princess must roll an initiative value greater than or equal to the one Silence rolls. (That is Lion Princess must act before Silence.)
2.Lion Princess must use an attack that will trigger AsuraRevenge. (Since Lion Princess will only use sword skills on odd turns; Lion Princess must not use WheelSlash.)
3.Lion Princess must target Silence.

Suffice it to say Asellus' story has become even less fun to run.

Emilia:

Unplanned Battle Count: 0

Once again I save time by using slightly more luck reliant methods. Only Silence and Zozma enter the DeadKnight X 2 and DevilSquid battles. Thus, there are generally fewer actions entered and fewer post-victory messages. The DeadKnights can end the run if
they combo enough. And they can waste time if they deflect MysticSword frequently enough.

I also save time in this chapter due to facing a enemy in the Shingrow tournament that can kill Emilia faster.

Riki Part 1:

Unplanned Battle Count: 0

I obtain a WaterCannon from the Junk Shop as opposed to the GhostCannon in the Lord's Manor. They more or less play the role in the Virgil battle, and assuming the Junk Shop is kind, the WaterCannon is a faster acquisition. I also hope for 650 credits from the VulcanII battle; however, I have a method for 325 credits. Addionally, I no longer recruit Lute.
