Welcome back to my coverage of SAGE 2019.

This time we are playing through:
I Can't Believe It's Not Sonic 1
This despite looking exactly like Sonic 1 isn't just a port of Sonic 1 but a remake made completely in Unity.

I Can't Believe it's Not Sonic 1 (ICBINS1) attempts to recreate Sonic 1 (Green Hill Zone, at least) faithfully in the Unity game engine while adding some new features. Everything is written from scratch; no pre-made Sonic frameworks here.

Best of all? It's all open source, with no paid Asset Store packages. If you're considering what to use for your next 2D Sonic project (or even if you just need some 2D character code), please give the GitHub page a look:

Controls
Arrow Keys: Move

Known Issues
NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT! Sorry. Just didn't get around to it. The controller config in the startup dialog does nothing.
No swinging platforms, and no GHZ boss. Just didn't have enough time to get them in; sorry.
I got lazy with the invincibility stars and they don't look quite right. Oh well.
Music sometimes goes off-beat for a second when transitioning from the intro to the main music loop.
It's possible to soft-lock yourself if you manage to get trapped in a certain way during your hurt animation. I only know of one spot to trigger it though, and it's pretty unlikely to happen. I plan to add a failsafe later, though.
Certain resolutions cause the scaling to get all screwed up. If you run into this, set your game to a higher resolution (or resize the window)
The camera movement isn't quite accurate.
The S-Tubes are a bit wonky: sometimes you'll get pushed inside by standing next to them, and sometimes you'll push against the edge of them. Not much I can do without significantly reworking Sonic's collision.
Never got around to implementing pausing.
...or camera panning for looking up/down.
Sonic's sprite can sometimes be a bit jittery.
You can totally break the game by spindashing into the signpost. You'll see why.
Various GPU issues: palette cycle stutter (Intel) and Sega logo fade-out issues (Nvidia?).
