10Well this is something I decided I wanted to do a few months ago and just got around to finishing up. This is the shortest Toaplan 10m, with it being possible to reach that score at the end of Loop 2. However, this pretty much requires No Miss and very minimal bomb usage. Realistically, the first time you do it you'll reach 10m somewhere in Loop 3 (this run reaching it in 3-8). This run also was the furthest I've made it on No Miss pace, surviving an entire hour before eventually dying in 2-7.
Most of the challenge in this comes from just how punishing death is, really your only realistic opportunity to recover is in the mid game, from stages 4 through 6. You also only get score extends in Loop 1, before the loop clear bonus is applied, so you want your Loop 1 score to be as high as possible. The maximum is probably around 3.5m before the clear bonus? After that, you only get extends from the occasional 2-up (there's 2 of these per loop, unlike in 1p the item order never resets so you don't have to no miss half a loop to get one), and the 1-up items you can get from the big planes in Stage 3, 5, and 8 (most commonly in Stage 3).
The reason why this game can reach 10m so quickly is because of the massive clear bonuses, with each stage having a bonus based on how many lightning bolt items and bombs you have after clearing (which maxes out at 350,000) and a loop clear bonus that starts at 1m then increases by 1m more for each loop, maxing out at 10m. Through the use of a glitch (only possible in 2 player versions of the game), you can get the clear bonus twice in some loops, allowing for a counterstop 2 loops early (Loop 10 compared to Loop 12 glitchless).
As far as I can tell, this is also the first recorded 10m on the disadvantaged 1p side, which has a lower damage output than the 2p side. If I decide to go for the counterstop in the future I'll probably use the 2p side for that.
