Ieyasu gathered his remaining forces and retreated from Okehazama. Yoshimoto's heir, Ujizane was a failure as a leader and the Imagawa clan would soon fall into ruin. Because of this, Shingen Takeda would break his ties with the Imagawa and would invade their lands. Defeated, Ujizane would take refuge in Kagegawa Castle in Totomi. Ieyashu, meanwhile would use the chaos that ensued after Okehazama to declare independence from the Imagawa, and quickly forged an alliance with Nobunaga Oda. In an effort to hold off the mighty Takeda and Hojo clans, he set off to attack Kagegawa Castle, the home of his former lord.
