A showdown with Shan-Yu showing off how to play stylishly and proficiently early-game (like first-world early) without needing to rely on reaction commands or limits to create openings. I think there's a population of people who assume that the reaction command is the only way to break Shan-Yu's defenses effectively given that you don't have many defensive tools at your disposal early-game; however, you can actually parry Shan-Yu's attacks and NOT trigger a Showdown reaction command simply by jumping. So as long as Sora's not touching the ground, he can clash with Shan-Yu's attacks and exploit openings without triggering or needing to rely on reaction commands.

Parrying is a more advanced way to exploit Shan-Yu's openings, but how can a beginner break through Shan-Yu's defenses WITHOUT the need for reaction commands? Easy:.....just move to the side when we uses his overhead slash attack. Typically, if you attack while Shan-Yu uses his overhead slashing attack, it'll trigger a reaction command. However, if you evade it, whether by jumping away, jumping over his shoulder where the blade isn't, or just moving to the side then attacking right after, you'll be able to stagger him. Shan-Yu can also be staggered during the recovery frames of his aerial sweep attack so don't hesitate to inflict some damage during those opportunities as well
