Santa Margarita River Trail- Hiking with Librarian Queen and Ichirou The Shiba // Fallbrook, CA
23The Santa Margarita River Trail seemed to be a fairly populated trail- though I only found out about it from my friend, Librarian Queen.
The parking lot opens at 8am and is very small, so if you're not going be arriving there right at 8am, you probably won't get a spot in their lot. I arrived there at 8:20am and I want to say that the last spot filled up just a few minutes before I got there!
Someone who worked there redirected me to another parking lot, but it was at least a 3 minute drive away from my desired trail entrance. If you park at the lot that I had to park at, and hike through the trail that leads you to the actual Santa Margarita River Trail (5.2 miles out and back), expect to do 2 miles crossing the river at least 4 times first.
This hike was definitely filled with many surprises, but I'm not mad. I live for adventure, and that's what I got! Of course, I'd love to have not stressed about parking so far away from my friend, who found an open spot at the actual trail head, but I found a way to make it work!
If I were to do this trail again, I'd make sure to park at the original entrance, because I don't want to be wading the river so many times again. Once is enough LOL. Who knows how clean the river really is? Aside from our adventurous nature, my friend and I pushed forward because it was the only way to get to the actual Santa Margarita River trail and her car. It was either through this river, or walk through the main road that's not mean for pedestrians.
Overall, we all had a good time. LibrarianQueen and I haven't been able to meet up in months, and she finally met my Shiba Inu, Ichirou! They're such good friends now, can't you tell? =) We're planning to do another hike together, sooner rather than later, so you'll most likely be seeing both my friend and doggo again!
