It’s all in a day’s work for the celebrity recruits in the latest season of SAS Australia. but there’s a whole lot more you don’t see on TV. Recruits must fill a bucket with cold water from a tap and carry it to a sink area to wash. There’s no flushing toilets either. A ‘drop’ toilet is used instead and must be cleaned out and maintained by the recruits themselves. Food is basic too – three meals a day consisting of oatmeal and a boiled egg for breakfast. a sandwich for lunch and protein with salad or vegetables for dinner. It’s less than 1.400 calories per person on some days. The celebrities travel in the back of cramped wagons for up to six hours a day between challenges – and while more than 200 crew work on the show. recruits are not permitted to communicate with them. Each recruit carries a 20kg Bergen which includes survival items such as compass. whistle. torch. watch. knife and sanitising wipes. They also carry a helmet. chest harness. sleeping mat. tarp. towel. water bottle. basic toiletries and a sleeping bag. A doctor can only be seen if the DS approves a visit and this season more than 290 band aids. 72 metres of strapping tape and 1.000 alcohol swabs were used on the battered and bruised celebs.
