Satsang with G - The Search for Truth
Episode 1:
The Search for Truth
No matter where you look in the world, you will not find what you’re looking for.
Bold statement, I know. But we have all been conditioned to look in the wrong place for the things that matter most: freedom, happiness and peace.
You see, our world is committed to the pursuit of stuff. It is run by the market, by economies, but the basest instincts.
Most modern cultures simply want more. Often at any cost. Is not the world suffering from this, deeply?
But it is has not been the pursuit of stuff that has brought humanity out of the caves. It has been the search for truth. It has not been conformity, accepting the status quo, following the herd or conventional wisdom.
It has been the search for truth.
This search ennobles us. It makes us better. It makes us wise and compassionate, thoughtful, contemplative. It also leaves us impervious to manipulation and lies.
Since we first gazed upward and truly grasped the magnitude of being self aware, a part of this vast and mysterious cosmos, we have wanted to know why. We have wanted to understand our place and the meaning of it all.
It seems our modern society, the beneficiary of this age old pursuit has turned its back on the very thing that created it.
But, that is why there is satsang. Here that is entire purpose. To search and find the truth.
And there is no greater search than the search for the truth of the Self. the true self… your true self.
As I said in the beginning, no matter where you look in the world, you are not going to find it.
Looking for the truth of you is not like looking for your keys. it is not like looking for knowledge or acquiring a skill.
The truth of the self must exist within us. It is not the truth “out there” it is the truth “in here”. It is your self, which is right here with you. Not over there somewhere.
Satsang is a communion with your true self.True self , the truth, same thing.
Now some people may balk at me using the word truth. I mean many have claimed to have it and have turned out to be less than optimal.
So let me put it differently. What we are all seeking is freedom, happiness and peace. But we have been seeking it out there and, as a result, have not found it.
Now it isn’t really our fault. We have all been conditioned to look for happiness outside ourselves. In objects, possession, relationships, substances, status, states of consciousness or mind, systems of thought or organization. But the truth, happiness isn’t in any of those.
It’s here
Closer than you breath
Closer than your heartbeat
Closer than your thoughts
Which is why we have not found it. We have found a lot of information. A lot of knowledge. Even some amazing knowledge.
But we have not found freedom, peace or happiness.
We have been looking in the wrong place.
It is the truth, your self which feels the breath, hears the heartbeat and sees the thoughts.
It is what is experiencing. it is what is doing the knowing. it is not the knowledge that is known.
So welcome to satsang. The place to discover yourself!
So when I say that it is the search for truth that ennobles us, does that mean that our everyday concerns are irrelevant or unimportant. Absolutely not? I invite questions about whatever is bothering you in your life.
Money, romance, relationships, career. I invite those because they all have at their root the same motivation.
Everything in our life is the desire for lasting happiness. Simple as that.
And lasting happiness can only be found when it is anchored in something that lasts. The happiness the most experience is fleeting because we look for it in the realm of the changeful.
So even the search for a better material life is actually the search for truth, for that which isn’t changing.
So bring any questions that is important to you. But don’t be surprised if the answer turns you in an unexpected direction. The direction inward.
Back towards yourself, because that is the only place lasting happiness exists.
We are haer to ask and answer questions, to challenge assumptions and to realize that freedom and happiness
